A long overdue update! I underestimated how much time my MSc thesis would be consuming when I stated the blog would be updated every other week. I still have lots of photos I took during the days (months) between the last update and now, e.g. during my summer holidays, but those will have to wait..
Last week I took a break from my thesis and returned to my university city, Wageningen, to study for some repeat exams. For those of you who aren’t living in the Netherlands: it snowed! a LOT! So while maybe I should’ve been studying, I took one afternoon off together with two friends and we had some fun in the snow (and took pictures of course).

The white snowy background created opportunities for some nice portrait shots. Luckily I also had a pretty model to work with ![]()
The constrast created by the snow is even more pronounced in back & white, like in this shot below..

Hey! A fellow photographer! (note camera in boxers
)

Some strangers who also ventured out in the snowy weather made for some great black & whites.

I’m really liking the black & white pictures. Lightroom 3 (I’m currently using the public beta) gives some excellent out-of-the-box results on the B&W conversions and it’s really easy to fine tune to your liking. So I’ll leave you with one more photo of my lovely girl:

As always, I’m interested in what you liked, or disliked for that matter. For example, does the watermark bother you? Let me know in the comments..

Hi! Finally an update :p. Great stuff! Lovely blue eyes
. All taken with the 70-200mm?
Thx for your suggestion on a hosting provider. I was looking at http://www.hostingdiscounter.nl but I think your suggestion is cheaper. I’m currently using Dreamweaver to build my site. It’s quite addictive, but frustrating at the same time since I have no idea what I’m doing ^^.
You can see my current draft/concept/’sorry excuse for a webpage’ here: http://members.home.nl/l.belgers/ (most links don’t work yet). I’m still thinking about the name though. It’s going to be in Dutch btw.
How did your exams go btw?
Greetz!
No, actually they were taken with a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8.. I didn’t have my gear with me, so I used my old D80 and borrowed the lens from a friend
You really want to build the site by yourself? Without using a content management system like WordPress? I’ve gone down that road and I can tell you it gets really old, really fast.. Posting new content gets very annoying after a while.
Exams went okay, passed at least one, I think.. What’ve you been up to?
Later!
Yes, at the moment I am still optimistic about doing that designing stuff :p. I like the flexibility. Maybe it gets harder (and more annoying) when I want to add other scripts and stuff but at the moment I know how to add galleries (Lightroom Flash or HTML gallery) and text content. I think that’s all I need for now. I still have to create and add some galleries and one of those fancy menu box link systems (like dpreview has).
Good to hear that your exams, or at least one :p, went ok. I’ve been busy with searching a job. I found a really nice one today relatively close to my home (biochemical analist, cell culture). I really hope that one will work out ok. I need a job so I can justify buying a new lens and tripod ^^.
The watermark doesn’t bother me… but the biochemical “analist” does.
Very nice pictures indeed, although I think that nice spring and summer pictures might be even better to look at
. The watermark looks very professional, so keep it there!
